ALDRIDGE PLACE
This charming two-story house was originally built in 1922 in the Landmark District of Aldridge Place. It has east-facing sunrooms at both floors, filled with daylight through arched openings on the lower level and casement windows up top. However, the master bath was located square in the middle of the second floor without any windows at all. And the dramatic ground floor sunroom with its arched openings felt like a missed opportunity.

Our clients had a deep appreciation for the historic home and an open minded approach to solving some of the functional issues. They proposed the idea to relocate the master bedroom from the ’sun porch’ and installing the bathroom in its place. To preserve the beautiful casement windows and their low window sill, we designed a freestanding vanity with chrome legs and a marble top that turned up to form the backsplash. The shower room tucked into a nook along the inside wall, but left open to let in the daylight, while the clawfoot tub is positioned under the bank of windows.
