PASCAL

This traditional home has a stunning view of preserve lands around the winding bend of the Colorado River. Originally built in 1990, the house was in need of an intensive renovation to open up to the view, resolve the oddly shaped openings and ceilings, and modernize the finishes and fixtures. The backyard was reimagined with terraced gardens, water features, and a pool deck with outdoor kitchen for entertaining. The back porch was extended and rebuilt in a new architectural language to better relate to the outdoor areas and landscape.

  • The interior was refined by opening up the space from the entry through the main stairway and living room, with new windows and doors to bring in more daylight. The kitchen and bathrooms were reconfigured for improved functionality and storage, with new millwork and low-maintenance finishes. We collaborated with Laura Burton Interiors to establish a furniture plan and develop the character of this family-friendly home. The owner’s Swedish heritage influenced the color scheme of a crisp white with Watercolor blue and botanical accents; we sourced fabrics, artwork and window coverings to harmonize with this color palette and garden-like aesthetic.

We took care to source eco-friendly finishes and materials, specifying low-VOC for paint, primer, fabrics and wood finishes. We consulted with Positive Energy to assess the building enclosure, mechanical systems and indoor air quality to inform our decision making in this intensive renovation. As a result, the building performs well in our hot and humid climate, with a reliably sealed building enclosure, minimized indoor emissions, humidity control, and filtered, well-ventilated air flow.
